Jenny Owens

I have been gardening my whole life. A love for this art form springing from my family, a lineage of keen gardeners from the North and South of Aotearoa New Zealand. My grandad won a Christchurch Beautifying Society Award for his garden, annuals and Begonias arranged in patterns, as neat as a pin. My grandparents in Mount Maunganui had a different aesthetic: lots of stones, sea glass and shells, some cast into the homemade cobblestones. I watched my nana rip swathes of stinging nettle out with her bare hands, that is where I remember learning that gardeners are tough.

I have a background in fine arts, teaching, landscaping, and am obsessed with making things look nice. Beautiful gardens can be any style or size, straight lines or free flowing, I like a mix of everything. My last two gardens have been small and always changing to make room for new ideas, new plants and chickens.

For me, nothing feels so fulfilling as a day in the garden, hands and knees covered in dirt. Skipping from one task to the next, lungs filled with fresh air and the smell of dirt on my skin. The anticipation of what will soon grow and bloom.

Gardening provides a limitless yield of interest in the world around us and a lifetime of learning.

I would love to help you with your garden, so please get in touch.
